The parents of Ben Langford, nine, approached the County Durham-based manufacturer asking if they could provide a product to fit a purpose-built bathroom at the family home in Cambridgeshire.
The family wanted an Orbital 1600mm Sliding Door to sit in an alcove. By installing this product it created a massive showering area, big enough to be able to accommodate a parent or a carer should they be required to help Ben shower.
The Orbital 1600mm Sliding Door is modern, stylish and minimal in design, not institutional in appearance and would be highly desirable to any prospective new owner, should the property be placed on the market.
As well as supplying Ben with the shower enclosure, which will help both him and his parents as part of their day-to-day routine, Roman also provided an expert from its UK wide technical team to install the enclosure.
Ben’s father, Andrew Langford, said: “The new enclosure is ideal as it allows us to easily help Ben in and out of the shower. It also looks fantastic and we would like to thank Roman for helping us to find and install the right product to suit our needs.”
Roman is currently supporting the Bathroom Manufacturers’ Association (BMA) initiative which is highlighting the plight of people with disabilities when it comes to bathroom issues.
Britain has an aging population and Design Council statistics show that 8.7 million people in the UK fall under the disability discrimination act, of these only five per cent are wheelchair users. This highlights the fact that many people within the UK suffer with mobility problems.
One of the most common disabilities is arthritis, so sufferers often struggle with stepping into a bath or shower, or find it difficult to use products with awkward handles. Roman have solved this by offering a range of products to fit their award-winning low-level trays which eliminate the step-in. They also have a range of Walk-in Shower Enclosures allow for easy access as awkward doors and handles are removed.
Marketing director, Loraine Gamblin, said: “Many specialist shower enclosures for people with disabilities are not designed to look attractive in a modern home. We are conscious that people with special requirements also want modern and stylish product’s, our designs fulfil this important role while also look great. Our designs focus on inclusive living – designs that appeal to, and include, all user groups. This is genuinely a breakthrough for up market designer bathroom equipment.”
“When Ben’s parents approached us and asked us to provide an enclosure that was suitable for his individual needs, Roman saw it as the ideal opportunity to highlight the need for stylish, inclusively designed products. Roman were glad to help out and are delighted that Ben is enjoying his new enclosure.”
