Not only did the team have the challenge of an 84 mile hike ahead of them, but they also battled against the elements, facing blizzards, high winds and sleet.
Employees from Roman raised funds for the company’s chosen charities; Darlington and District Samaritans and St Teresa’s Hospice. Roman is aiming to raise around £10,000 for these two charities throughout 2008, via a series of different events.
The challenge took 5 days to complete, with the team starting out on Easter Thursday and finishing on Easter Monday. 12 people participated in the hike, and although there was some injuries along the way, all managed to complete the full walk.
Andrew Bowerbank, Data Analyst at Roman, and one of the challenge team leaders commented: “We have been planning this charity event for several months now, but nobody could have predicted the weather we faced along the way. It certainly made the hike much more interesting! Throughout the hike one team mate was struck down with illness and another with a knee injury, but we all pulled together and battled on to finish as a team.
“A big thank you goes out to all those companies, along with friends and family who contributed sponsorship money. The £5,000 we have raised will really go towards our target amount for the year of £10,000 to be split between these two excellent local charities.”
